While a realist weighs his options, knows what could go wrong and how he can work towards eliminating its probability, optimists spend their lives hoping and believing that everything would turn out well.ĥ. There comes a time when you need to accept the truth for what it is and stop depending on miracles, waiting for unicorns.Ĥ. Punch them in the face and they’d probably think “Oh, thank God, I didn’t get kicked in the nuts!” They’re also irrational in their approach. They can be incorrigibly naïve (hate to say it, but yes, stupid…STUPID) sometimes. The worst part is, it only sucks for the people who have to deal with them.ģ. That explains why they’re so oblivious to so much happening around them, most importantly in their own lives. Optimists choose to see only a part of the truth. Let’s just face it, a lot of them are borderline delusional. Someone burst that rose tinted bubble, PLEASE!Ģ. It’s not that the world is allergic to happiness but sometimes, it’s annoying to see someone so far off from the real world. They fail to see the world for what it really is. They’re ridiculously out of touch with reality. Hope has the power to change the world, but sometimes, just sometimes, it’s important that you open your Goddamn eyes, for f*cks sake! If you’ve wanted to punch every optimist in the face too, you’re probably going to agree with each one of these reasons why optimists are the most annoying people on earth.ġ. If you want to be successful over the long haul, keep it real, folks.Positivity is one thing, ignorance is another. When the real world is telling you something that conflicts with your own beliefs, it's time to take a good hard look in the mirror and face what you see. Sweeping real issues under the rug instead of dealing with them has a name. Look, it's fine to be upbeat, but hiding behind rose-colored glasses is a very bad idea. ![]() Throw in a growing cultural bias toward utopian thinking that's strongly reinforced by countless self-help books, inspirational blogs, social media content and self-proclaimed coaches, and you have a massive fad that's doing more harm than good. Unfortunately, the problem has been greatly exacerbated by all the hype surrounding the controversial field of positive psychology. You can read countless scientific articles and studies on the subject, such as this one in Scientific American and this one in Psychology Today, but I can tell you that it's an enormous issue with all types of leaders and businesses. If you over-indulge positive thinking, it leads to a dark side where the outcome is anything but positive. ![]() There's simply no place for it at work, and that's a hard-line truth I hold to this day. But there's a time and a place for everything, and it's called the privacy of your own home. But after that, I vowed to always be part of the solution, not the problem.ĭon't get me wrong I still complain.
